Day Lily

Day lilys are aptly named. Better do your sketches and color notes , because they won't look that way tomorrow. This one was in my back yard. I used my little guide book to color mixing to get the compliments right. Picking a petal to match the color , I took my sketch and a mental picture to the studio.
A page from the sketch book
I'm posting the reworked " Breidablik Chapel " I did scrape this painting. It was drier than the other painting I scraped so the effect was different. I do think this rework is better but not because of the scraping. I used a photo and was able to add a little of the detail that was missing on the first...... I guess there are some parts I like better and some worse.

Hi Mike,

That Lily looks really striking. I like the thumbnails you did of it. Everybody's thumbnail sketches always look better than mine. I'm a sloppy thumbnail sketcher.

The final image on the little church is really good. You refined it quite a bit from the last post.

Hey Robin . . .

I am tempted to put some watercolors up on my blog . . .but am holding back . . .

You are a man after my own heart! I love the way you study in pencil (or pen) first with value studies. It makes for much stronger work... . .Maybe we should both feature that aspect of our work more often, eh?

Thanks, by the way, for spending the time on by blog going thru the archives. I really do take your comments to heart.

As for your new name . . . maybe you should consider changing it . . .there are already waaaaay too many Mikes out there!! ;p)

P.S. My brother is named Robin! No kidding!

Hey I'll take that compliment! Even though I'm better looking, Mike has more wisdom.

Hi Silvi, I've seen some girls with thumbnail paintings on their thumbnails, that would be really hard.

Thanks for mentioning the chapel painting, One day I like it the next I don't. I appreciate the encouragement.

Mike, Why hold back? From what I've seen your WC are excellent. I love the geometric abstracts, really, there is a lot of quality in those paintings.

If you post more sketches I will. I learn allot from yours. Thanks man!

I haven't lost my computer. It's right here in the kitchen, where I left it.
