I was happy to get out on a couple beautiful fall days early last week. I knew it would not last long with an "Atmospheric River headed our way...That's the way it is around here. Near the end of October it finally gets cold enough to turn the leaves golden and then the November monsoon season arrives and blows them all away..🍂
The morning fog simplified some of the detail for me. I considered putting a car on the road but like it a bit more quiet.. Peaceful.

I'm starting to paint in the studio from reference gathered during this summers art adventures. This one comes from the Whidbey Island Plein Air event.
I had fun trying to paint the individual character of the rocks and not get too fussy...not sure I succeeded. There is a pretty big difference between the plein air attempt and the studio version, which is why I paint as much on location as possible and hopefully bring that PA immediacy and freshness to the studio.

Even though I was born in Ohio, Poulsbo is my home town now. I love to paint it's many seasons and faces. This painting is a classic fall day in the Pacific Northwest with the "marine layer" of fog in the morning enhancing the changing color of the leaves which will be fleeting as the November winds and rains strip the color from the trees.
This studio painting has been around for awhile and undergone at least one repaint. Right now you can see it at the Front Street Gallery in Poulsbo. Stop by and see the new all gallery artist show called "Birds of a Feather" and how all the artists interpret bird themed paintings, pottery, prints and crafts.
