"Baling Hay" Amish country, Ohio, daily landscape painting

I have been preoccupied with a commission painting that is testing my skills and causing me to experiment with some different techniques. I won't be able to share that painting for awhile so there will be some delays in posting. Thanks for your patience.....

This was the last in the series of Amish country paintings I completed two weeks ago. I will get back to those! There are many more images I want to paint and some I will use for larger format paintings. We were fortunate to come across a field of grass that was being harvested and baled the Amish way.....Of course I was drawn to the light and to the "old world" feel of this scene.

"Coming into Shaw" watercolor landscapes from the San Juan Islands

More from the San Juan Island trip....This is the view from the ferry as you arrive on Shaw Island.

10x14 watercolor
Another view from the dock. The stark white building and boat against the dark water and trees was intriguing to me.....especially for watercolor.
By the way, I almost have the watercolors out of my system......will begin working in oils again soon......

"Eastsound Church" Plein air painting , Orcas Island and Awards

I was struck by the intense light hitting this side of the Episcopal church in Eastsound. I set up in a little protected spot on the beach with the break wall to my back and decided to go for a 12x12 plein air painting.....which was great! But it got HOT.....and the sweat was dripping off me as I painted....surprising how long it takes to fill 144 square inches....
The set up for my second painting in Eastsound......Not quite so hot as it was a little later in the afternoon.
The view from where I camped at Doe Bay........Nice place!! ....I only did sketches of Doe Bay but will be painting from my images.

When I came home from the San Juans I had the exciting news that I won first place and best of show for my painting "Kingston Ferry Dock" at the North Kitsap Arts and Crafts show........and when I went to pick up my paintings on Sunday they handed me an award for viewers choice for the painting "City Squall" .....I believe God is confirming my decision to move into painting full time.

"Fields of Gold" oil on gessoed card

I had a bit of a hard time coming up with a title for this painting. But since I am trying to learn the song on my guitar I named it "Fields of Gold". The song was written by Sting but I love the way Eva Cassidy sings it on her album "Live at Blues Alley".

This is yet another view of the field next to Knowles Studio where I get to work (thanks Leigh!)
