"Pike Place Pit Stop" Seattle city scene by Robin Weiss

"Pike Place Pit Stop"  18x24 oil on canvas  SOLD
Available through Alki Arts     206-295-5115

Feels good to be back painting Seattle city scenes.  A new exhibition at Alki Arts coming up in April has gotten me back into urtban figurative painting again.  The challenge requires a basic knowledge of perspective drawing. Another aspect is the figure in these settings. Ideally, non specific figures with interesting gesture and personality....It's easier said than done!

If you find yourself in West Seattle, stop by Alki Arts in April to see "Slices of Life". For more info on the show click HERE.  Hope to see you there!  =]

"Seattle Buskers" Seattle city oil painting by Robin Weiss

"Seattle Buskers"  20x20 oil on canvas  Sold
Available through the
Cole Gallery, Edmonds WA
425-697-2787

My featured artist exhibit at the Michael Birawer Gallery is officially over but you can still go there and see a lot of the work I completed for the show.  Sorry I'm so far behind on the blog!!....But I am catching up!

Amber Hayes and friends
Seattle Buskers was painted from reference taken during one of my many "shoot from the hip" photo excursions through the city. I always stop to listen to the street musicians and this little band was really good! After I did the painting I ran into them again at Pike Place and showed the lead singer a photo of the painting on my phone. She really liked it ! Long story short....They came and played a few songs at my opening.....I love this job!!

Amber's band is called the Satin Sirens. You can see them play in venues around Seattle. Check out their facebook page HERE

Have fun out there!

"Market Music' Seattle city, oil painting by Robin Weiss

"Market Music" 10x10 oil on panel  $400
Available through the Cole Gallery
425-697-2787

There is a flower shop right on the corner of First and Pike in Seattle. Across the street is a light pole under cover of an awning. That is one of my favorite places to lean against with my camera and take pictures of the people and activity of Seattles iconic Pike Place Market. I have stood there for over half an hour observing and taking pictures. Many times!  This painting is composed using reference from those pics

I will be giving a painting demo at the Cole Gallery in Edmonds, WA on December 9th for the Christmas Holiday Show form 4pm till 8pm , Come down and see the show and join with us in sharing the joy of the season.

Also available and on display at the Cole Gallery is my painting "Dungeness Tidelands" a large studio painting of the Dungeness Spit and the Olympic Mountains which just won Best in Master Class Award in the Art Muse Contest online.

"Market Slice" Seattle city oil painting by Robin Weiss

"Market Slice"  11 x 14 oil on panel   Sold
Available at the Michael Birawer Gallery, Seattle
206-624-7773

Pike Place Market is iconic Seattle!  I always find interesting subject matter there and always have a blast painting on location. If you plan on visiting Seattle be sure on taking time to explore Pike Place Market. While you're at it, walk a few blocks south on First Ave and Visit the Michael Birawer Gallery. A new gallery in Seattle featuring some of the best regional artists in the area.

This work was inspired by the fruit vendors who pull you over to sample a slice of their best new varieties. If you go to enough different stands you won't need lunch!  =]

"The Trio" Seattle city, urban oil painting by Robin Weiss

"The Trio"  14x18 oil on canvas   Sold

The City paintings exhibited at Alki Arts for my featured artist show are selling fast and I'm very thankful for that. The Trio is one that is still available and you can see it in Seattle at The Hotel 1000 until the end of April.
I captured this scene at Pike Place Market on a sunny afternoon and used several snapshots to render the composition.
The painting was larger but was working better cropped a bit. That was tricky because I used a Frederic's Nature Core linen panel to paint on and had to figure out how to cut and seal it. You can see my facebook post on this subject HERE

"Market Lights" Seattle city scenes, urban landscape

Okay, Wow! It's been a busy month!  We took two weeks to go back to Ohio, where we picked up a van that our folks gave us and then drove it back across the Trans Canadian highway, stopping to camp for five days in Banff..The country we traveled through was spectacular and I can't wait to get started on some larger canvases from the pics and sketches that I made there!
Next week we take off again for camp High Rock, a summer camp for kids off the Yakima reservation in eastern Washington . This will be our fifth year serving as camp counselors along with folks from our church, Liberty Bay Pres., Harrah community church and Sacred Road ministry.
Finally, please come to my solo show, opening this Friday, 7/1/2011 at the Directors Gallery on Bainbridge Island . I will be there from 6:00pm till 8:00pm and would love to say hi if you are in the area.Winslow Way is still pretty torn up from road construction but there is a really nice outside sitting area right by the gallery and the weather is looking good!! Yea!
See ya there and thanks for supporting In Plein Air!!
