"Pioneer Square Hotel" Seattle city, oil painting by Robin Weiss

"Pioneer Square Hotel" 36x48 oil on canvas   Sold
Available at Alki Arts, Seattle

Found out for sure last week that Alki Arts, a gallery that started out in West Seattle, moved downtown and has been representing me for over six years is closing the doors at the end of March. Very sad news for all the artists as we have become like family, prospered and grew our careers together there. Diane and her whole family have been and will continue to be good friends. Our whole community of artists and art lovers will miss her warm smile and nurturing spirit.

I have been working hard on a series of paintings depicting iconic Seattle scenes for a show at Alki in May. That show got cut short but the paintings will be exhibited at the First and Seneca location until the end of March and then moved to another spot  in the city for April where they will be available for purchase.

To see the rest of the paintings in this exhibition go to my gallery page HERE and scroll down to paintings available at Alki Arts

"Pioneer Building" Seattle city, urban oil painting by Robin Weiss.

"Pioneer Building" 20x24 oil on canvas Sold
On this Memorial Day I am reminded of the voluntary sacrifice of so many young lives for the freedom to enjoy beautiful sunny days such as this in our great country. I realize that we have many challenges and problems here. Still, this is a nation where one can be rewarded for hard work, speak freely, have access to every viewpoint, worship in peace and freely elect leaders, among other rights that citizens of many other countries only dream of..... Say thank you to a vet today.

Summer at Alki Arts
Update on the June show with my son Maury Weiss......We will be hanging the show on Sunday the 10th and the opening will remain on Thursday the 14th for the Alki, Second Thursday Artwalk in June.

Hope to see you there!!

"White Umbrella" Seattle cityscape, oil painting by Robin Weiss

"White Umbrella" 6x8 oil on panel
I followed this couple as they were walking happily.... and apparently in love, down the side walk with the rain pouring down . They were laughing and holding hands ....and I was hoping I could capture the spirit and feel of the scene.....

I really enjoy trying to capture these rainy day scenes ...HERE is another one from the archives....a large 60x40 commission piece I did a few years back...It is now hanging on the 16th floor of the Four Seasons Hotel in Seattle.

"Run for Cover" Seattle cityscape by robin weiss

"Run for Cover" 7x7 oil on panel. Seattle cityscape, by Robin Weiss  Sold
Seattle is known for it's rain and we have had plenty this spring! I love to be in the city when it is pouring down rain! All the reflections and umbrellas come out . Nature does the job of softening edges and muting colors that makes for great painting. I have completed a small series of rainy day studies featuring the famous Seattle Pergola in the heart of Pioneer Square.
The elaborate Iron Pergola was erected in 1909 as a stop for the Yesler and James Street Cable Car Company. This waiting shelter was the most lavish of its kind west of the Mississippi with ornamental iron columns, wrought iron ornamentation and a large underground restroom. The pergola was designed by Seattle architect Julian Everett.
Here is another Pergola painting from the archive which received a lot of attention.
