"Playing at the Point" Point no Point, oil painting by Robin Weiss

"Playing at the Point"  18x24 oil on linen   $1400

"Refuge of Tide and Time"

Early in March I went to a favorite painting spot about 20 minuets from our house on the Kitsap Peninsula. The Point no Point Lighthouse. I have been coming to this historic and unique location in the Pacific Northwest for over 30 years to beach comb, play with the kids as they were growing up, hike , fish and paint! I've collected driftwood here over the years to build funky birdhouses that I sold at farmers markets. I haven't done that for awhile now....except lately...I built a standing birdhouse sculpture for a "call to artists" from the Port Angeles Fine Art Center . We will see if it gets accepted...If it does it will be installed in the Websters Wood Sculpture Park at the center and will be for sale.  Hope you will get a chance to see it there!

I took a a lot of photo reference when I was at the Lighthouse Beach back in March painting the scene in an earlier post, "Winter at the Point" The painting above was done from from those photos and using my plein air studies for color accuracy.

I love to paint the driftwood on the beach! If you go back through my posts over the years you will see many paintings using driftwood as design elements to draw the viewer into the scene and direct the eye around the painting. For me, it also evokes the feel of the salt air and marine atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest the very best!

This painting along with a group of other recent work is available through the Cole Gallery in Edmonds Washington.  You can contact Denise at this number to find out more info on purchasing this work and viewing more paintings of my art journeys here and abroad....

Poulsbo Morning" original oil painting by Robin Weiss

"Poulsbo Morning"   20x20 oil on canvas   Sold
Prints available

It's a new year and I'm really excited about all the adventures ahead! ....But for the next few months I will be spending time in the studio working on commissions and upcoming shows.

I went down to the marina in my home town of Poulsbo on one of the rare sunny days this time of year to get out of the studio for awhile and paint in fresh air.  The plein air painting I did was terrible....I won't even post it!  ...But I did get some good photos and was able to use my reference to finish this studio painting.

If you are interested in prints of this painting , email me at  robinweiss@earthlink.net.

"Whidbey Island Race Day" original oil painting by Robin Weiss

"Whidbey Island Race Day"  9x14 oil on panel    Sold

Earlier this summer my cousins from Ohio came to stay with us and we took them to Coupville on Whidbey Island to have lunch and explore the town. It happened to be Whidbey Island Race Day with lots of sailboats out in the sound. I took a bunch of pictures to work this winter....which is what I am doing now!

Also this time of year I cut up or paint over old work that has been lying around taking up space. Here are some progression shots of this painting using an old panel that I scrubbed with turpentine.

My cousin Cindy and her two girls Mallory and Shayna were a lot of fun to have around for a few days!!

Available through the Cole Gallery;    425-687-2787

This studio painting was inspired by a plein air painting that was a demonstration during my workshop this year prior to Paint the Peninsula.  We had such a good time at this workshop painting on the Olympic Peninsula that I have decided to try it again next year. If you are interested in joining us send me an email and I will get you on the list to receive email updates.

Workshop at Salt Creek

One of the locations we painted was Salt Creek a favorite of all the students and also the artists that come from all over the US and Canada to participate in Paint the Peninsula.  I came back to this spot during the event and painted as the moon blotted out the sun during the solar eclipse of 2017
More about that in future posts. =]
