Wenatchee Pine Forest   11x14     $600
Aniversary pic

Ann and I went to Wenatchee for our anniversary. We wanted to do some cross country skiing but the snow was thin . We still had a great time tooling around doing some hiking and sight seeing. We stayed in a really cool Air B&B place and had fun visiting Leavenworth and learning about the history of Wenatchee from our amazing host  Rufus Woods, whose family owned and operated the first newspaper there.

"Valentines Day" Seattle cityscape oil painting by Robin Weiss

"Valentines Day"   9x12 oil on panel           Sold
I posted this painting to my facebook page on Valentines Day. Diane Venti the owner at Alki Arts was looking at it online when a couple walked in the gallery after seeing some of my paintings in the window. They asked Diane if there was more of my work they could look at. She said "Sure he just posted one on his facebook page!"  They asked if it was available. She messaged me and they bought it!  You gotta love this internet thing........

"Taste Restaurant" Seattle cityscape painting by Robin Weiss

"Taste Restaurant"  11x14 oil on panel    Sold
I go back and forth between painting cityscapes from photos and plein air landscapes. It's a discipline that kinda keeps you on your artistic toes. No one wants their artwork to seem stale and it helps to stretch yourself in creative calisthenics...

"Taste" is the restaurant in the Seattle Art Museum....just a few blocks down from Alki Arts....where you will find this painting among others displayed for First Thursday Artwalk in March!  Here's a date night idea.....Take your sweetheart to dinner, enjoy a free  pass to the S.A.M.  and come down to the gallery between 6:00pm and 8;00pm ...I'll pour you a plastic "glass" of wine!  =]

"Mt Shuksan Evening Light" plein air landscape painting by Robin Weiss

"Mount Shuksan Evening Light"    8x12 oil on panel     Sold
This painting was done on location in Mount Baker National Park back in 2013. For some reason the work was never posted on my blog.  It has recently sold to a collector and when I went to look for the image to mark it sold ....No where to be found!
I remember clearly seeing this spectacular view the first time up to Mount Baker with my friends Mark Bistranin and Jim Lamb . We had been painting all day and decided to stop one more time at the lake as the sun was going down and the Mountain began to glow with the light of the "golden hour" . We couldn't resist quickly setting up for another painting in the dying light.  I finished this up in the studio and then never posted it.

"Daughter of Song" portrait, oil painting by Robin Weiss

"Daughter of Song"    9x11 oil on panel      Collection;  David Jackson
Sold
With the Black History Month Art Show at Alki Arts in mind..I painted this "warm up" painting of an obscure black and white photo taken a few weeks earlier at the gallery.

I was taken by the profile of this girl against the light colored concrete wall behind her and wanted to push that contrast in the painting. I used a very limited palette starting out with wet in wet washes of warm color and finishing with thick, cool, white paint strokes laid in with brush and palette knife.

"Eagle Harbor" plein air landscape painting by Robin Weiss

"Eagle Harbor"   10x10 oil on panel  Sold
Another foggy day on Bainbridge Island. This time down by Eagle Harbor. There is a great little pull off by the gas station perfect for parking and painting!  I had fun trying to capture the different shades and hues of greyed color. How do I do that?  Well you just mix different amounts of red, blue and yellow with some white....
If your interested in learning more about that, email me and I will put you on the list for my next color class...  =]

"View towards Lynwood Center" plein air, landscape painting by Robin Weiss

"View towards Lynwood Center"  10x10 oil on panel   Sold

When seeking a place to set up my easel I try and find a location that has more than one paintable view. ...and I found one that beautiful foggy morning at Point White!  I just did a 180% turn and painted the opposite direction.

The Treehouse Cafe

The only distraction was thinking about the nice cup of coffee I would have at the Treehouse Cafe after completing my painting....

By the way....My show of over thirty local plein air and studio paintings will be on display at the Treehouse through the month of February.  Stop by and check it out. they have great food, coffee and beverages ...plus pool tables! It's a great spot to meet your friends for lunch!

Speaking of friends....The only thing better than a two-view painting location is a great painting buddy to enjoy it with!

Darrell Anderson, another dedicated, local plein air painter posted the painting he did that day on his blog HERE . Thanks for coming out and making a fine day even better Darrell!  =]

Darrell Anderson  brush in hand

It was a foggy day with hope of sun in the afternoon so I set up down by the estuary to do a painting... It was so pleasant a morning  I called my friend Darrell Anderson and left him a message to join me. About ten minuets later his van rolls up! A fellow artist always makes painting more enjoyable!

"The Poulsbohemian" plein air, urban oil painting by Robin Weiss

"The Poulsbohemian"  9x11  oil on panel    $350

Our little town by the fjord, Poulsbo! "The hub of all things Scandinavian"  I really enjoy going into town on sunny days and
The Poulsbohemian
finding a spot to set up my easel and paint. Especially near one of my favorite coffee shops!  Last week we received the gift of a bright, warm February day. I took my gear downtown stopping in at the Poulsbohemian to greet friends and have some coffee before setting up down by The Sons of Norway to capture the view.

This little painting will be available at the Carrie Gollor Gallery in downtown Poulsbo.  Carrie has had her beautiful gallery space open for over a year now and is representing me in my home town. Stop by and say hi if you get the chance. Carrie would love to tell you about our town!

"Snoqualmie Pine"  10x8 oil on panel  Sold
Last one from our day up at Snoqualmie Pass.  It was getting dark when we set up for the last painting of the day . This little pine had such a nice feathery shape against the dark firs and the cake icing snow.

"Snoqualmie Creek" plein air landscape painting by Robin Weiss

"Soqualmie Creek"  8x12 oil on panel      Sold
Back up at Snoqualmie Pass we found this little tributary while the sun was still high enough to throw shafts of sunlight onto the snow. I painted very fast as it was late in the day and the light was moving!  This is where practice and keeping your gear organized really pays off!
