"Are You my Mother" Figure painting by Robin Weiss

"Are You my Mother"  9x16 oil on panel   NFS

One of the favorite childrens books of our kids and now our grandkids is "Are You my Mother"  written by P D Eastman back in 1960.  Based on a 2007 online poll, the National Education Association  listed the book as one of its "Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children."   It was one of the "Top 100 Picture Books" of all time in a 2012

I have been documenting our grandkids off and on since they were born as I get  photos that I think will make a good painting.  Recently they moved to a new house with a lake and more property to collect a variety of pets and farm animals. This is Brooklyn with "Bill" and "Webster".  The photo with the ducks looking back at Brooklyn made me think of the childrens book.

At right is Brooklyn at 3 or 4 yrs playing with the piano at our house during one of the many sleepovers at grandmas.

"April Still Life" still life painting by Robin Weiss

"April Still Life"  8x8 oil on panel   $300

The cobalt blue vase.....Yes, I still have it!   I stuck a few apple blossoms in it when they were blooming beautifully and much too briefly this spring.  Against the red drape they really stood out. Maybe this is the painting I will enter into the Little Gems Show this year....The deadline is fast approaching! Yikes!

I'll wait another day and see what you all think... =]

Speaking of the Little Gems Show...This is the annual small works show put on by the Plein Air Washington Artists group and hosted by the Scott Milo Gallery in Anacordes, WA. It is always a spectacular presentation of fine art by Washington Artists. Stop by if you get the chance!

Also at the Scott Milo Gallery in November will be a group show including myself along with a few other members of PAWA, Chris Troyer, and Roger Small.

"Poulsbo Marina" plein air marinescape by Robin Weiss

"Poulsbo Marina" 9x12 oil on linen, plein air   Sold

I always carry my portable painting gear with me pretty much everywhere I go.

Since Covid, instead of spending my mornings working on computer stuff at the coffee shop I have been walking around Poulsbo.

I usually call my mom and see whats happening on the waterfront.

At 7am that mostly includes my waterfront animal friends like Bruce the seagull or Aaron the Heron.

Well, the coffee shop is open now and here I find myself working on the computer again....I have a lot of paintings to post and catch you all up with! ....but I am not going to abandon my morning walks!

I found this friendly fellow out enjoying the morning quiet before the big boats come in for the weekend.

I feel like that when I can find a quiet place to paint outside and just enjoy the beauty of our little town. I grabbed the pack and walked out to the end of the boat dock to paint the above scene. Such a wonderful morning.

Have you developed some enjoyable new routines since covid?   Hope so!

"Mountain Pass" Original landscape painting by Robin Weiss

"Mountain Pass"  On the way to Colorado
20x20 oil on canvas  Sold
Available through the Oh Be Joyful Gallery, Crested Butte CO

Designated one of Daily Paintworks Picks of the Day!!  Thanks DPW!

We have been driving the back way to Colorada the last few years and I find it much more enjoyable and inspiring rather than the main highways that make it unavoidable going through Salt Lake City. Nothing against Salt Lake City. It's a fun destination to go and stay awhile....just no fun if you are trying to get from point A to point B...and it is in the way!  But there are some great back road ways to get there and most you can travel just as fast. Going through West Yellowstone, Teton National Park and then past the Wind River Mountains down into Colorado offers views like the one above.  This painting is on display in Crested Butte, CO at the Oh Be Joyful Gallery. Check out their website HERE

Thanks for following along on the journey!   Have fun and stay creative!

"Valley Vista" Colorado landscape painting by Robin Weiss

"Valley Vista" 16x20 oil on canvas
Available through the Oh Be Joyful Gallery , Crested Butte CO
970-349-5936

Lots going on these days!  Been awhile...again...since my last post!  Our plans to travel to Crested Butte are all set and I am looking forward to painting in Colorado again! I will be meeting up with a few artist friends and spending some time pushing paint in the CB area for the Oh Be Joyful Gallery. Can't wait!  Check out the website HERE for more info on the summer shows in 2021

Just a few of the things that have been taking up a lot of time besides trying to get out and paint as much as possible:

I am also writing a blog for the Plein Air Washington Artists and they are meeting a LOT, at different

paintouts around Washington state!  This is a very vibrant, welcoming group of passionate plein air painters and we love creating together. If you are a painter in WA consider becoming a member of this group. You can't help becoming a better artist painting with a group like PAWA. Check out the blog HERE

The Feedburner widget that folks use on my blog to subscribe and get new In Plein Air blog posts into  your email is going away and I am replacing it with a new Feedblitz widget. That has taken a lot of my very limited tech skills to get done. Hopefully there will not be any delays or problems, but if you experience any issues with getting new posts please let me know.  Thanks!..  and Thanks so much for being faithful subscribers. I don't spend much time checking all the stats on who and how many follow In Plein Air ...but I know you are out there and I appreciate you all!!

Several shows in which I am participating are coming up! As I already mentioned the Oh Be Joyful Gallery will be having their Summer Showcase and I will have some work there.

The Roby King Gallery in Winslow on Bainbridge Island will be having a group exhibition titled "The Gift of Water". I will be showing new, water themed paintings along with artist friends, Jane Wallace, Luke Tornatsky, David Eisenhour, and Brooke Borcherding.  August 6-29th 2021.

The Scott Milo Gallery in Anacortes , WA will be having a group exhibition, November 5-30th with Lorna Libert, Carol Barrer, Christine Troyer, and Roger Small ...along with myself, Robin Weiss. =]

The Scott Milo Gallery will also be hosting this years Littles Gems Show, an annual PAWA small works show featuring many of the best painters in Plein Air Washington Artists group. This year the judge of awards will be Kathleen Dunphy.

I have been chosen as the Poster Artist for the Edmonds Art Festival and will be showing work at the Francis Anderson Gallery in conjunction with the Edmonds Art Festival 2021. This show has been delayed since the onset of covid so it will be good to get back to normal in the PNW with art shows and festival this summer!

I will also be showing some new pieces at the Cole Gallery during the month of August......Whew! That seems like a LOT ....and that's not all the stuff going on!   But enough to post for now!

Be well and stay creative!
