LaPush is one of my favorite beaches on the Washington coast. I spent two days trying to paint , and taking pictures. It was really windy. I spent the night in Pt Townsend and then headed for the coast. It started out dark and rainy, but soon after I arrived in LaPush the sun came out and it was awsome. They have these cool islands off the coast they call Sea Stacks, and lots of atmosphere, the roar of surf, tons of driftwood, and everywhere you turn , a painting.

Liberty Bay Estuary

Started out really foggy today. I wanted to do a painting with some water in it, so I picked a spot I have been wanting to paint . This is the Liberty bay estuary. Very cool spot, they are building a " fish park" on the property opposite this side. Unfortunately the painting didn't work out. I think I will do some more to it using the pictures I took. If it gets better I will post it.

Red Rhodies

I like the abstract qualities of this little painting. I'm learning to use bigger brushes and more pigment, lots of water to soften edges and let colors bleed. Watercolor is alot of fun.

Sumatsu farm

This is the second painting I did on saturday. I didn't get it to the completion I was hoping for. I had trouble with the pumpkins , getting the right colors for the sunlit side and the shadow. I need some lessons from Mick McGinty on that. Don't know how he does it. Probably should do some color charts. Anyhow people kept coming over to look and talk, so I wasn't quite as focused. also I was getting tired, but just having lots of fun.

Dottie's place

Heres the set up for todays plein air painting. Took me awhile to get going. there was a long line at starbucks this morning, and then I show up with my one gallon thermos jug. They weren't very happy with me.
I painted this with you in mind Tanner. See, you can enter the scene. The trees are firmly planted, coming out of the ground. There is space, and all that stuff. What ya think?

red roofs

Another view of the buildings at the Point no Point lighthouse in Hansville Washington. I didn't make it to the Dungeness this weekend due to various obstacles. Little things like work, life , food, health, can conspire against the best laid painting plans. I'll try again next week. sold

Fall

I'm putting up an older fall painting for the weekend. I'm taking off to go back up the Dungeness river. I saw alot of great painting spots last week end. This time I will take my paints and try to capture the fall colors on the river. Can't wait.

Apples in Blue

The red ripening apples are drawing my attention. I keep stopping and taking pictures of them hanging from the trees and laying on the ground. The colors just glowing as if there are lights inside.

summer fading

The spirea blossoms turning from lavender to rust. Ah.. the summers fading to fall. Every season has its beauty. Every flower its fading glory.
