I agonized over this painting, trying to get the light the way I remembered it......problem is there was no direct light that day just a light...presence.....a rich and saturated tropical light with no direction......so hard to communicate on canvas and I'm afraid I failed to render it with the power I was hoping for but all in all it's a painting I am satisfied with.......I wish the photo could give a sense of the scale........this painting is oil on stretched canvas 18x36..........This is one of the amazing scenes I took in,.. cruising down the Nile river on the way to Murchison Falls in Northern Uganda.

Heres a close up of the bull elephant that was standing as if "posing " for his picture to be taken.....What magnificent creatures.......and they run wild and free in some of the most spectacular wilderness in the world!....
Here's a sketch of my next painting, an auto parts seller in Kampala...........

If niches are to be found in this world, Robin, it appears you have found yours. These drawings and paintings simply scream with emotion an power . . . .you are selling them way too cheap!!
You have something here, Bro. There is a career in these, I'll just bet!
Woaw! I love your painting! The light may not be as you remmebred it, but the overall effect is very powerful. I witnessed a similar scene last week in South Africa. I took a picture too and was wondering whether to paint it; now I see your painting, I'm going to have a second look at mine...
Ah Mike....Thank you bro!!.....I'm like you...I paint what I see that inspires me and moves me and hopefully, with Gods help, I can paint the scenes in such a way that they will move others as well..
Hi Cathy! Thanks for stopping by!
I have checked your site and your photos take me back to memories of the fantastic wildlife in Africa!
Your paintings and drawings are very well done!! I look forward to seeing more..
Oh my Gosh! You’re driving me insane-Robin. This is ‘insanely” beautiful. I’m sure it’ll be sold before the weeks up.
I love the balance of your design -with the elephant at the end of the little peninsula of land. I think you’ve most definitely got the scale with him in his environment. Excellent work.
The next looks pretty busy with detail.
I have a small little project that you might be interested in. I’ll shoot you a note.
Vikki
Thanks Vikki!! Your such an encouragement to me!!
I love your "Green Door" painting!!
I came here from Vikki North's site. She referred to you as a 'Master Artist'. I see what she means.
Hi Lou! Thanks for checking in!
I took a quick look over some of your posts and discovered that we share a love for art and a love for Annie (yours and mine)........What I mean is, since you don't know me and you may take that wrong is that I am in love with a girl named Annie as well...
Also , I am glad you made it back from Nam in one piece...I was there, but safe and sound on the deck of an aircraft carrier launching planes. F14 Tomcats..
I'll check back in with you....off to go fishing with my son...
Dear Robin, 18" x 36"---REALLY? It must be STUNNING in life... Seems like the light IS sort of diffused, as the colors and values are pleasantly restrained, love that bit of bright on the tusks. Way to go.
Hi Diane! Yes , the painting is larger than I am used to doing and was a challenge for me.....interesting that you noticed the whitest white at the tip of the tusk, as that was a "spark" that stood out to me in the scene.
Thank you for the comment!
This is terrific. There is a brilliance, clarity and depth.
Love it! Hope there's a whole lot more African themed paintings coming.
Please come see my latest post.
Solitary Sentinel is just a breathtaking painting! Beautiful!
I love your paintings but what I
like above all are your sketches.
Great work .
