"Pink Pearl" is a rhododendron variety that's pretty common in the Northwest. We have one in our yard where the reference for this painting was taken. It was the grey/green leaves with the complimentary red accents that attracted me to this composition and I tried hard to render them authentically. That's what viewers kept commenting on when I posted it, so guess I achieved some success.
