"Big Valley Fog" landscape, oil painting

I attempted to portray the early morning fog again in this painting............but looks like I may have created a book cover for an upcoming Stephen King novel!!.....Maybe I should post this on his facebook page!?

(: Funny post, great painting. You seem to gravitate towards especially challenging subjects, Robin! Love that.

Thanks Diane!

I am working on my control of the media but sometimes I feel like "Artist Gump" "Paintings like a box of chocolates" "You never know what your gonna get"

I love the feeling of this picture.....quite a challenge to paint in such little light. I have been working on it myself.

That is a spooky purple house but very very pretty.

I love your blog.
I am at a point of discovery relating to color and tonal relationships. I am hoping to get your input. I posted a picture of a color wheel and a tonal wheel on my blog. It is not the best representation of what I had hoped but it represents a gradation effect of tones that relate to the colors on the color wheel. The lightest tone begins at yellow and travels in both directions around the color wheel reaching the darkest tone at violet. Can you tell me your thoughts? My real question is; Do these tones on both sides of the color wheel gradate at the same rate of strength ending at violet? If that is true then not only would colors have complimentaries and such but so would tones.
Looking for some thoughts on the subject.

Hi Patricia! Thank you! Yes it can be a challenge and painters use headlamps and such to help out. This painting however, was done from a photograph.

Thanks for visiting Gregory!

I will have to digest your comment for awhile....I never thought of "tones" having a compliment.
Of course opposites on the color wheel are the compliments of each other.

I'm sure you will learn a lot by making your own color wheel and value grades. As you know colors go down in value on both sides of the color wheel from the lightest yellow to the darkest violet...I'm not sure what you mean by "tone".

A color can best be brought down in value by mixing with its compliment.

Have fun!!
