It's never a good idea to post on your blog or Facebook page when you are leaving for an extended vacation....That's the reason why it has been so long between posts! We flew to Ohio and picked up the vehicle that will replace my old red van....A nice new..(Well....new for us)....custom camper van, graciously donated by my in-laws and drove it across Canada and back home....We had a short break and then off for Camp High Rock 2011...a yearly summer camp for kids off the Yakima Indian reservation....We had a great time!! ....and I have lots of reference photos and field sketches to work from! In fact, I will be posting sketches for awhile until I generate some paintings....I have spent some time stretching large canvases and preparing panels ...so I'm all ready to go!!!..Stay tuned and thanks for following I.P.A.!!
This is a pen and wash sketch from my sketch book. I have been using a soluble marker and india ink mixed with water in one of those water brushes to sketch with and sometimes a little watercolor.

Amazing sketch. The ink is so powerful.
Your technique is gorgeous. You've found a medium that works perfectly for you!
Thank you Irina! Welcome! You are doing well with your watercolors!
Hi Lauren! Thanks! I tried the markers but they didn't work as well for me.
That's a wonderful "sketch", my first reaction was "now that's good!" You mentioned the brush pens. I just got one the other day and have been trying to get the hang of it. What proportions of ink to water would you recommend?
Looking forward to the results of your trip.
Wow, sooooo amazing! Very efficient & sensitively rendered lines with much feeling and very evocative. Beautiful. (Hope it wasn't too dreadfully humid for you here in Ohio!)
I'm always drawn to these type of loose and free sketches. Look forward to seeing some more.
Hi Diane, Thank you! I actually use two brush pens one with clear water and the other has a 50/50 water and India ink mix.
Thank you Diane!! I wish I had time to stop by and see your paintings first hand and say hi, but alas, our schedule was tight. Wow! was it hot and humid! We were so glad that we made the decision to cross the continent by way of the Trans Canadian Highway....Much cooler, much straighter and much faster...but gas was six bucks a gallon! Still worth it!!..=]
Hey Randy, Thanks man! I am going to post a few more of these before I get back to the paintings.
