"Channel Marker" La Push , seascape. oil painting by robin Weiss

You can just see the channel marker on the right side in the shadow of James Island that leads into the mouth of the river and the Quileute marina.  The boats come and go in this crazy surf! ...I'm working on a few studio paintings now.

"La Push Evening" plein air oil painting by Robin Weiss

La Push Evening  8x12 oil on panel.

To bid on this painting click here

For the last two years my wife, Ann and I have been staying at Quileute Oceanside Resort for Valentines Day....I'm hoping this will be a yearly tradition for us because I love the ocean in the winter and especially the La Push/ Mora Beach areas!

This year our cabin was closer to the beach with big picture windows and a porch that faced the majestic crashing surf......now this is a gettaway! No TV or internet distractions, just the awesome beauty of God's creation!

It was raining on and off which doesn't bother me at all except when I am painting...I know, I know....I have seen all those pictures on the internet of guys pouring water out of their pocade boxes.....I prefer a covered porch if I can get it!...=]

All in all it was a great couple of days! I got some romantic time away with my wife .....and some painting time too!
We also took a ton of pictures and I have already done some studio paintings.  Some of these I have posted on my facebook page.....The blog is about three weeks behind my Fb page.......It just works out that way!  Hard to keep up with all the social media venues out there these days!  Anyhow, you will see all the paintings here in time....Have a great weekend!

"The Old Apple Tree" plein air oil landscape painting by Robin Weiss.

I painted this one on the same day .  This old apple tree still had a lot of apples left on it from summer and the birds were going crazy for them....however I didn't do a very good job capturing all the action..I still feel pretty rusty painting from life..

"Field Tree" plein air landscape painting by Robin Weiss

The weather warmed up and dried up enough for me to get out and do some PA painting last week....I didn't go far....didn't have to...there is plenty of subject matter right out side the studio door!
7x7 oil on panel
I made some modifications on my PA easel in preparation for the First Annual Plein Air Expo and Convention that is being promoted by Plein Air Magazine. The convention will be in Las Vegas near the Red Rock Canyon National Park. I am pretty excited to attend this event as some of my heroes in the art world of plein air painting will be there!
I'm almost embarrassed to call myself a plein air painter with all the studio work I have been doing lately......and this will be a humbling experience to be around some of the best PA artists in the world but I will try and absorb as much learning as possible from them without making a pest of myself!

"Seattle Waterfront" The Argosy, Seattle city painting by Robin Weiss

You may remember this scene from a few months ago. I did a small quick sketch in oil (10x6) which sold quickly and generated a lot response. There are often difficult challenges in trying to enlarge paintings that worked well as small studies. I thought this composition would be a good candidate because of the strong focal point and large divisions of space created by the structures and shadow areas.
Anyone who has been to Seattle will recognize  this scene along the waterfront on their way to Ivars Fish House for a bowl of clam chowder!

"Seattle City Street" cityscape oil painting by Robin Weiss

Looking east on Occidental Way as the sun sets over Elliott Bay. The buildings lit up by the late afternoon sun caught my eye.  This is not an iconic view of Seattle but still recognizable to the people who live and walk around the Pioneer Square area of the city.  I chose to work large with this piece giving the ordinary scene a sense of grandeur.

Black History Month at Alki Arts, oil figurative painting by Robin Weiss

Things have been frantically busy around here as usual!  I am posting a picture of my painting "The Runner" before I had finished it. I have since fixed the runners neck so that it doesn't look so stiff! .....and then rushed the painting off to Alki Arts for the Black History Month Show before I remembered to take an updated photo! The "runner" is my friend Patrick and the scene is from camp last year where we both served as camp counselors. 16x20 oil on canvas

I also framed and brought over my painting "Brothers" for the show. These two guys were talking in Seattle when I candidly shot the photo ref.

"Mt. Baker Farm" oil landscape painting by Robin Weiss

"Mt. Baker Farm" 18x36 oil on canvas   SOLD
I had a tough time getting a good photograph of this painting.  That happens sometimes with the larger work since it is harder for me to control the lighting. We found this scene on the way back from Vancouver, BC. It is near Lynden on the border of Washington state.
