"Daughter of Song" portrait, oil painting by Robin Weiss

"Daughter of Song"    9x11 oil on panel      Collection;  David Jackson

With the Black History Month Art Show at Alki Arts in mind..I painted this "warm up" painting of an obscure black and white photo taken a few weeks earlier at the gallery.

I was taken by the profile of this girl against the light colored concrete wall behind her and wanted to push that contrast in the painting. I used a very limited palette starting out with wet in wet washes of warm color and finishing with thick, cool, white paint strokes laid in with brush and palette knife.

What a wonderful strong design Robin!! And I love the playfulness with which it was painted!!

I agree with previous comment. I love how you kept it so seemingly simple even tho I can tell a lot of time and thought went into the piece. lovely!
