"Snoqualmie Winter" Snoqualmie Summit, plein air , landscape painting by Robin Weiss

"Gold Creek in Snow" 8x8 oil on panel             SOLD
Funny, earlier this year I was whining and complaining because I didn't get to paint in the snow! Then the snow hit the fan, so to speak...a freak blizzard on Whidbey Island and then my friend Jim Lamb invited me up to Gold Creek to do some plein air painting. What an awesome day it was!
Snoqualmie Pass got dumped on the week before so there was still a lot of snow on the bright sunny day we picked to go up.

We both set up on the bridge that spans Gold Creek just off the Hyak exit at the summit.

Again, I worked mine over a bit when I got back to the studio using photos I took on location. Jim gave me some advice too...

Robin, How fun to see you painting the same area as you painted without the snow. This is lovely! The reflections going on in the creek are very well done! I like the color I like call "ashes of roses" you used for the trees as you fade to the background and as little spikes here and there. So very like midday. Hard to capture. Gorgeous painting!

I am so impressed at how your art has progressed in the last year. I especially love the open fields with daffodils that you did a few weeks ago. I was on Whidbey Island last year in March for a workshop and to visit an old friend in Anacortes. We drove across to those fields and a special farm stand she wanted to show me that has excellent ice cream.

You are really cranking them out, Rob. Great abstract design, paint application and color. How differently we paint yet how much I like your stuff.
