US Geological Survey Site at Fort Flagler on Marrowstone Island

We went out on a blustery late afternoon for some plein air painting in Port Townsend and ended up here at the US Geological Survey Site. I did my best to capture the fleeting light. After a lot of scrubbing and scraping I ended up with this study of the residence. I love the late winter, brittle texture and color of the tall grassy fields. Annie stayed in the van with a good book.....=]

I love this piece, gorgeous tones! Last night I got the oils out for the first time in a few years, probably since uni. It took me over an hour to get going and then I started to paint something that was worthy of keeping. Love the smell of oil paint that is lingering now!

I really love the colors in this, Robin... and those rough brushtrokes on the grassy area in the foreground are perfect. I can feel the cold wind blowing! That's a beautiful area you have to work in!
