I watched one of these Herons catch an ell under a rock. He stabbed it a few times till it stopped squirming, washed it off flipped it up and swallowed it whole. They are pretty impressive hunters with a lot of patience! Also beautiful birds that are ubiquitous around here. I have been wanting to paint one for awhile.
